Job Description
To provide maintenance services, supervision of staff and ensure that security is maintained to designated University residence halls and apartments while maintaining inventory of all furnishings, managing the work order program of all maintenance activities and documentation of all related activities in order to insure a positive environment coinciding with implementation of goals and guidelines as established by Old Dominion University and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Position is designated “essential personnel” for emergency closings. Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities Ability, knowledge and skill to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to structural, electrical, mechanical/HVAC and plumbing components located throughout the assigned apartment complexes. The knowledge and ability to properly use tools and equipment related to the above-mentioned trades. Working Knowledge of computers and programs used by the university relating to the position i.e. Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, etc. Special licenses, registration or certification Valid Virginia drivers license and an insurable record. Education or training NONE Level and type of experience Several years experience in Maintenance related to dormitories, apartments, motels, hotels, etc. with strong supervisory experience. Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification) License as journey or master in the skilled trades area. High School graduate or GED. Training in structural, electrical, HVAC and plumbing or equivalent work experience.
