PET/CT Technologist

About the Role:

The PET/CT Technologist plays a critical role in the diagnostic imaging process by performing positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) scans to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. This position requires the technologist to operate advanced imaging equipment with precision and care, ensuring high-quality images while maintaining patient safety and comfort. The technologist collaborates closely with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate diagnostic information. Additionally, the role involves adhering to strict radiation safety protocols and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Ultimately, the PET/CT Technologist contributes to improved patient outcomes through expert imaging and compassionate patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT Registered) with credentials in Nuclear Medicine and/or CT imaging.
• Valid state licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the United States.
• Demonstrated experience operating PET and CT scanners in a clinical setting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of radiation safety principles and protocols.
• Strong understanding of radiologic technology, including radiography and X-ray procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced certification in PET imaging or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
• Experience working in a hospital or outpatient imaging center environment.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and imaging software.
• Additional training or certification in patient care and safety.
• Participation in professional organizations related to radiologic technology or nuclear medicine.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and position patients for PET and CT imaging procedures, explaining the process to ensure patient understanding and comfort.
• Operate PET and CT scanners to acquire diagnostic images, adjusting equipment settings as necessary to optimize image quality.
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and accurately, monitoring patients for any adverse reactions during the imaging process.
• Maintain detailed patient records and imaging documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies.
• Perform routine quality control and maintenance on imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Collaborate with radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians to review images and provide technical expertise.
• Adhere strictly to radiation safety standards to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary exposure.
• Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advances in PET/CT technology and best practices.
