Job Title
Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems at city facilities, parks, athletic fields and landscape medians.
Essential Functions
1. Maintains, repairs, and installs irrigation systems on city property. 2. Installs irrigation systems by assembling pipes, valves, timing devices, program controllers and other related hardware to complete new irrigation systems or modify existing systems to correct water deficiencies. 3. Performs inspections, makes repairs such as replacing damaged parts and assesses preventive maintenance status of irrigation systems. 4. Operates a variety of equipment such as trenchers, backhoes and front-end loaders to facilitate the installation or modification to irrigation systems. 5. Works with assigned staff in job tasks. 6. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. 7. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. 8. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
Required Skills
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to provide excellent customer services including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance. Must be able to read and understand reference books, manuals such as wiring schematics, controllers and irrigation heads. Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints; perform basic arithmetic. Must be able to work independently, solve problems and prioritize work. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a minimum of 6 months experience on irrigation systems. Must pass a Federal / National criminal background check and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy. Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 1).
