The Enforcement Division of the Dental Board of California (Board) is seeking qualified knowledgeable licensees to serve as Subject Matter Experts, who are practicing dentists, to review complaint and investigation cases to evaluate and/or determine whether violations of the Dental Practice Act have occurred.
When reviewing cases, the expert will determine if the standards of care used within the dental profession was met and whether the Board's laws, and regulations were followed. The majority of the Board's cases involve quality of care issues. After completing a case review, experts are required to provide a written report of their determination based on their expert opinion. California Civil Code section 43.8 provides immunity from civil liability for experts; however, experts may be required to testify regarding their opinions in the event the case goes to hearing before an Administrative Law Judge.
A Subject Matter Expert position is not a permanent state position. The Board contracts with several experts and they are utilized on an as needed basis. The hourly compensation for experts is $100 and there is not a guarantee that each expert will be used regularly. Please review the eligibility criteria below.
