Quality Control Technician - Asphalt

Job Title : Quality Control Technician - Asphalt

Location : Hampton, VA

Department : Asphalt Lab

Reports to : Manager - Asphalt Quality Control

Major Role and Purpose :

Perform all testing and sampling of materials in the lab or on the job site to ensure product meets specifications of customer and / or State.

Description of Duties :

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
• Update and maintain current asphalt mix designs.
• Select products for tests at specified stages in the production process.
• Perform quality and gradation tests on aggregates and bituminous mixtures.
• Record test data into computer and evaluate results.
• Field test product (monitor temperature of mixtures, rolling patterns and roller speeds, paver speed and operation, appearance of paved material for consistent quality, and / or perform in place density tests).
• Troubleshoot problems with product as required.
• Inspect and calibrate lab equipment.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the lab.
• Ensure the plant is set up and running correctly.
• Prepare and distribute test reports on a timely basis.
• Communicate with plant foremen and road crew.
• Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
