The unit specializes in post-operative heart patients, vascular patients, sepsis, respiratory failure, and other critical care diagnoses. The nurse will care for a diverse adult and geriatric patient population. Daily census includes a maximum of 11 patients. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and more. Essential nursing skills required include management of ventilated patients, central line care, blood product administration, and interpretation of arterial blood gases. Nurses may assist with various procedures and manage complex medication drips. Flexibility with scheduling is essential, especially during peak times. The role requires adherence to strict infection prevention protocols.
