PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

Job Title : Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse – Travel Nurse

Location : Johnson City, TN 37604 (Tennessee healthcare jobs)

Employment Type : Travel Nursing Contract

Start Date : December 7, 2025

End Date : March 8, 2026

Contract Length : 13 weeks

Shift : 12-hour night shifts (18 : 30 – 07 : 00), 3 shifts per week

Hours per Week : 36

Estimated Weekly Pay : $2020 - $2070

Scheduling : Self-scheduling available; must work every other weekend and rotate holidays

No On-Call Required

Orientation : 24 hours total (includes 16 hours non-billable and 8 hours billable)

Patient Population : Adults and Geriatrics

Unit Size : 38 beds, average daily census of 37

PCU RN Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Tennessee or compact state)

Minimum 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown RN experience

Required certifications : AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS

Experience with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system preferred

Preferred : Charge nurse experience, community hospital, LTAC, or trauma nursing background

Must reside at least 100 miles from Johnson City, TN facility

Flu vaccine required (medical / religious exemptions accepted)

Ability to complete compliance documents and drug testing prior to start date

BSN required for international travel nurses

Facial hair must comply with CDC fit testing guidelines

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality patient care to adult and geriatric populations in the Progressive Care Unit

Manage a 1 : 5 nurse-to-patient ratio during night, weekend, and day shifts

Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias, respond to rapid response / code teams, and administer blood products

Care for central and peripheral lines, manage cardiac drips (no titration), and provide non-invasive airway management

Administer oxygen therapy, manage telemetry, and implement isolation precautions as needed

Support clinical education for nursing students while providing direct patient care

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy

Participate in team nursing and utilize self-scheduling options

Float to other units as needed within the RN scope of practice
