Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for an OB Ultrasound Tech

Essential Job Responsibilities :

• Perform obstetrics ultrasound exams on patients (16-20 weeks gestation).
• Ensure patients are properly prepared for procedures.
• Ensure all finished ultrasound exams are of high diagnostic quality and all administrative work for each exam is in order.
• Recognize and document abnormalities and anomalies.
• Effectively and compassionately communicate with patients and physicians.
• Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
• Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.
• Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
• Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
• Keeps patient records and adjusts / maintains equipment.
• Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies / procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements : Education :

Experience : Three years of experience performing ultrasounds is required.

Abilities :

Equipment Operated : Variety of Sonography equipment including ultrasound machines, transducers, gels, and computer hardware / software.

Work Environment : Combination of exam and laboratory rooms and darkroom. In some situations, may work in operating room. Sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings.

Mental / Physical Requirements : May be standing for long periods and may have to lift / turn disabled patients. Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. Some stress related to dealing with anxious patients.
