CAD Drafter – Set Shop
Location : El Segundo, CA

Pay Rate : $30.00–$35.00 per hour
A creative production team is seeking a Freelance CAD Drafter to support a Set Shop based in El Segundo, CA. This role focuses on translating creative concepts into precise technical drawings that enable the fabrication of physical environments, including trade show exhibits, retail and product displays, commercial sets, and photo shoots. This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented drafter who enjoys turning ideas into build-ready solutions in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, patterns, and templates for scenic elements, fixtures, and props used in :
- Trade show and convention booths
- Toy and retail product displays
- Television and digital commercial sets
- Photography and social content shoots
- Convert concept art, sketches, and markups into detailed, build-ready fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Develop dimensioned shop drawings, exploded views, and material callouts suitable for wood, metal, and model shop production.
- Revise and update drawings based on feedback from designers, engineers, project managers, and shop leads.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with project specifications, safety considerations, and production standards.
- Organize and maintain drawing files, version control, and related documentation across multiple concurrent projects.
- Support shop teams by answering drawing-related questions and clarifying construction details as needed.
Qualifications
Proven CAD drafting experience; portfolio or work samples strongly preferred.Experience with Vectorworks preferred; familiarity with other CAD platforms (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp) is a plus.Solid understanding of drafting fundamentals, including :Scale, dimensioning, and tolerancesOrthographic and isometric viewsBasic construction and assembly methodsProficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is a plus.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and convey technical information clearly.Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.Experience in trade show fabrication, set design, entertainment production, or engineering environments is a plus.AA degree in drafting, design, or a related field preferred; technical or trade school credentials will be considered.Work Schedule
