Overview :
Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit ! This is a full time, night shift in Suffolk, VA.
Hours : 7p to 7a with rotating weekends
About the Unit
The Observation / Short Stay Unit is an 18-bed department that specializes in observation, post-procedural monitoring, and short-term treatments, including TIA workups, stress tests, and radiology procedures. The maximum stay is typically two days per patient. Registered nurses can expect between 6 and 8 patient discharges per shift, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1 : 5 to 1 : 6. The unit is supported by a highly skilled team of unit coordinators, educators, and a nurse manager. It benefits from low staff turnover and a strong culture of collaboration. Additional PCT staff are available to assist with ambulation and patient care. This well-supported team is ideal for both new graduate nurses and experienced Registered Nurses looking to expand their skills. Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse.
