The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) has received and resettled refugees for over fifty years. We are affiliated with the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), one of nine national agencies that administer the refugee resettlement program nationally.

SALARY : $44,000

POSITION SUMMARY : Provide support, social, and acculturation services to Afghan Humanitarian Parolees, SIVs, Refugees and other eligible immigrant populations. Identify needs and plan action steps to ensure successful resettlement post 90 days from their arrival.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Learn and comply with applicable requirements of state, local and federal programs.
  • Become proficient in using multiple database platforms.
  • Provide ongoing intensive comprehensive support and advocacy.
  • Provide core services including, but not limited to self sufficiency assessment and goal setting, employment assistance, benefits assistance, ESL enrollment and coordination, assistance with medical appointments.etc.
  • Comply with detailed documentation requirements and complete in a timely manner case related documentation, paperwork, and reports for federal auditing purposes.
  • Make appropriate and necessary referrals for all services and any other services facilitating community integration.
  • Provide transportation to clients as needed to ensure access to services.
  • Attend a weekly supervision consultation with the manager and complete a yearly evaluation.

    • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in a relevant field (social work, teaching, anthropology, psychology, international studies, women’s studies, public health)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a client-facing employment position and / or 1 year experience working with vulnerable and / or underserved populations.
  • Familiarity with the Afghan culture.
  • Willing and able to serve New Haven and Bridgeport Afghan community.
  • Superior organizational, communication and prioritization skills Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to collaborate with other staff and service providers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with client databases.
  • Must have reliable car, valid U.S. driver’s license and valid auto insurance.
  • Ability to physically assist with apartment set up, moving furniture, and carrying household-kitchen items.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule to accommodate occasional after-hours services.
  • Verbal fluency in Dari and / or Pashto strongly preferred.
