PRIMARY PURPOSE :
Manages student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the division
QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum Education / Certification :
Minimum of 45 college hours or
Bachelors degree from accredited university preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred
Special Knowledge / Skills :
Knowledge of instructional practices in a school setting
Ability to follow lesson a plan
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Conflict resolution skills
Discipline management skills
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
Technology skills preferred
Work Conditions :
Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture : Prolonged sitting and standing; bending / stooping pushing / pulling and twisting
Motion : Repetitive hand motions including keyboarding; reaching
Lifting : Lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)
Environment : Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and maintain professional demeanor under stress; must wear professional attire
Minimum Experience : High school diploma
Prior employment experience in a school setting preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Maintain a discipline and classroom control that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
- Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health welfare and safety of all students.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Report to office upon arrival at school; check mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; request clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary.
- Report all student injuries accidents illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
- Implement lesson plans while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
- Organize students for effective instruction.
- Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
- Complete a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher.
- Collect and place students papers in regular teachers desk.
- Return instructional materials equipment and keys to proper place.
- Determine if his / her services will be required for the next school day.
- Comply with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
- Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities; Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school / division policies and practices.
