Psychologist - Hourly.

Located on 174 Acres in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta operates 300 licensed, accredited inpatient beds in three major program areas: Adult Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, GRH/Atlanta also offers inpatient and outpatient Dental Services.

This critical PRN psychologist position will be providing behavioral interventions on the Skilled Nursing unit and consulting with the interdisciplinary team meetings which are at 10:00 AM.

Job Summary:

• GRHA’s new skilled nursing unit supports residents on a locked unit living with dementia and other neurocognitive disorders, some of whom exhibit maladaptive behaviors like self- or other-directed aggression or combativeness with daily living tasks. Additionally, our residents have histories of significant inpatient hospitalization and resolved forensic issues and often have primary or secondary mental illness diagnoses. is the unit recently opened and is expected to build to about 16 residents
• A core responsibility for the PRN psychologist role is to develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Support Plans (BSPs). This also involves training nursing and direct care staff on BSP implementation and collaborating extensively with an interdisciplinary team (including psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers).
• The position hours would range from 8 to 29 hours per week. At present the census is low and likely lower hours will be needed. However, as the unit reaches capacity we expect there may be a need for more hours.
• The applicant must be available at least two weekdays, during day shift. We expect the psychologist's presence 2-3 days each week for a few hours will be sufficient. Two days during the week (when clinical staff are present) would be typical, with occasional weekend visits to help support weekend staff in working with residents. The interdisciplinary team meets at 10am each day and the psychologist should plan to be present for that meeting at least once per week.
• Primary weekly contacts would be provided by the SNF Administrator, and organizational management and as-needed clinical consultation will be provided by the GRHA Psychology Chief.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving psychiatric inpatients and individuals with severe mental illness
• Experience with dementia or related conditions, preferably in inpatient or skilled nursing settings.
• Competency with developing behavioral interventions, positive behavior support, and/or applied behavior analysis is preferred.
• Excellent writing and organizational skills
• Experience working on interdisciplinary teams
