Your Opportunity

Stantec has an immediate need for a talented, team focused Senior Structural Engineer with 20 or more years of remedial bridge design and inspection experience looking to challenge themselves on a professional level on a variety of transportation projects. We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to excel in working in a team environment that has the ability to lead a team of engineers and technicians specializing in scoping, designing and reviewing design plans, specifications and construction cost estimates and that has a passion for the work that they do. The successful candidate will join a growing team of transportation professionals supporting a number of federal, state and local agencies throughout the State of Maryland. Additionally, they may be called on to assist with bridge inspection by performing inspections along with writing and reviewing inspection reports and / or conduct follow up field / site inspections.

Your Key Responsibilities

The majority of work will include design and supervision of bridge remedial and inspection projects for transportation agencies in Maryland.

Leadership responsibilities include general supervisor of staff and providing clear and concise communication and correspondence with Stantec’s clients and the Stantec team.

Ability to respond to bridge / structures emergency situations

Key responsibilities include the evaluation of existing structures and development of load ratings, staff assignment, design oversight, plan review, writing and reviewing engineering reports and technical studies, leading the preparation of design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and construction cost estimate development while assisting the project manager to develop special provisions and specifications for DOT and municipal clients.

Work could also include developing pre-scoping reports to help clients determine whether a bridge should be rehabilitated or replaced

During construction, tasks will include the review of Contractor submittals and preparation of responses to requests for information.

Position also entails. preparing engineering reports and technical studies such as pre-TS&L and TS&L reports for bridge replacement projects. Work could also include develop pre-scoping reports to help clients determine whether a bridge should be rehabilitated or replaced

Potentially perform inspection of simple and complex bridges along with preparing the inspection reports.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas.

A Maryland Professional Engineering license is required.

Extensive knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required.

Experience with MDOT SHA and MDTA design criteria and requirements is preferred.

Ability to effectively communicate with Stantec’s clients is required.

Bridge load rating experience is preferred.

Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is preferred.

Successful completion of FHWA / NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training course is preferred, but not required.

Ability to travel within the State of Maryland.

Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment.

Education and Experience

Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis. Master’s degree is preferred

Minimum of 20 or more years of bridge design experience.

Inspection experience including large complex bridges and bridges with fracture critical members is preferred but not required.

A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.

Position will work in an office setting and require field work.

Pay Range :

• Locations in MN, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas - Min Salary $ 107,100.00 - Max Salary $ 160,700.00
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA areas - Min Salary $ 120,500.00 - Max Salary $ 180,800.00

Pay Transparency : In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
