Summary
Mountain Sprouts children's community is looking for an assistant, part- or full-time, to work M - Th
- at the Willow program in downtown Leavenworth.
The assistant teacher works on a team of three to implement an outdoor, nature-based curriculum for children 3 - 7 years. Using collaboration, flexibility, and communication, the assistant teacher fulfills the organization’s mission and philosophy alongside the primary teachers - cultivating curious, compassionate, and resilient learners through immersive, nature-based education. This program operates outside all day!
Additional hours are available on Fridays at the other Mountain Sprouts program.Duties
Duties Responsibilities :
Actively function in the classroom to ensure the safety, health and wellness of the childrenWork with teachers to implement daily curriculum, centered around American Forest School, and adapt plans to meet the needs of the groupSupport flexible routinesAssist in assessing student development needs; contribute to goal setting and progress evaluationsPromote children’s emotional and social development, understanding of others and self-actualizationProvide individualized support for children experiencing challenging behavior or ensure staff : child ratios are maintained while the lead teacher attends to individual needs.Develop maintain positive relationships with families;Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain an orderly, attractive and safe environment.Attend meetings and trainings as required, including staff meetings 1x / month off-siteAdhere to all MSCC policies and procedures and comply with state licensing requirementsEssential Functions :
To adequately perform the responsibilities required of this position, the assistant teacher must :
Be outside in all seasons / weather conditions for regular and prolonged activitiesExercise sound independent judgment and decision-making, problem solve when neededInteract and communicate appropriately with coworkers, children and their familiesAssume low positions (i.e. bend, kneel, crouch) in the outdoors that allow close proximity to childrenSustain high levels of energyMaintain schedules and routinesLift and / or carry up to 50 poundsWalk and / or run on unpaved surfaces and / or uneven terrain including snowEmploy acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor the environment and childrenPractice patience and adaptabilityRequirements
Minimum Qualifications :
Be at least eighteen years of age or olderDemonstrate the appropriate personal characteristics for working with children (patient, kind, communicative, clear)Have completed a high school education or the equivalentCertifications Requirements upon Hire :
Basic standard first aid and age appropriate CPR certificationHIV / AIDS and blood borne pathogen trainingNegative TB skin testCompliance with criminal background check and fingerprintingComplete required STARS training (within six months of hire)Food handlers permitNice To Haves
Desired qualifications :
Experience in outdoor learning, forest school, or outdoor education programs1+ years’ experience in early learning, preschool, or childcare centerCollege degree; early childhood education preferredPractical knowledge of experiential education modelsThe ideal candidate will effectively work as part of a teamBenefits
