Job Summary

Under close supervision (Technician I), supervision (Technician II), and general supervision (Technician III) of the Public Works Director, performs a variety of maintenance to property, pathways, and facilities. Duties require work to be completed courteously, safely, and efficiently. Duties often require work on weekends, evenings, and occasionally on holidays, and will be performed in all weather conditions. Work may involve some interaction with the public (all levels) and with outside vendors and contractors (Technician III).

Technician I is the entry-level classification of the job series. The Technician I is distinguished from the other levels by performing work under closer supervision. The work of the Technician I is more routine and requires limited experience, focusing primarily on basic landscaping, janitorial, grounds clean up and maintenance.

Technician II is distinguished from the Technician I by operating with broader departmental knowledge and working with more autonomy, while completing work within City guidelines. This position performs more complex tasks in addition to those duties performed by a Technician I. The Technician II also requires a chemical applicator certification and broader knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance.

Technician III operates as a Lead and is distinguished from the other Technicians by operating with significant departmental knowledge and working with more autonomy, while completing work within City guidelines. This position has limited project management responsibility, including obtaining bids and quotes. The Technician III is expected to use independent judgment when appropriate. This position addresses and resolves problems and complaints from the public, escalating as necessary.

Essential Job Functions

Technician I

• Performs facility, park shelter, playground, restroom, and grounds general site cleanup, janitorial, maintenance, and improvement tasks.
• Responsible for the following landscaping duties :
• Lawn mowing
• Trimming
• Edging
• Planting
• Pruning
• Weeding
• Aerating
• Thatching
• Snow removal and de-icing
• Raking
• Sweeping
• Responsible for clearing obstructions and debris on trails and roadsides.
• Assists with irrigation monitoring, adjustments, and repairs.
• Assists with maintenance and weed control within pathways, easements, or City property.
• Maintains and prepares fields for athletic events i.e., baseball, softball, soccer, etc.
• Operates power tools and various landscaping equipment, if age 21 or over, may operate City trucks.
• Provides information and directions to the general public in a professional manner, as needed.
• Waters all City-owned flower baskets and planters during the proper seasons.
• Installs banners and seasonal lighting.
• Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• Performs event set-up, support, and tear down, as needed.
