American Traveler is hiring a Med / Surg Oncology RN for 12-hour night shifts in a Level III Trauma Center in Washington with EPIC experience and BLS / NIHSS certifications required.
/ n / n Responsibilities / n
Work in the Med / Surg Oncology unit of a Level III Trauma Center
Patient population includes oncology (neutropenic, post-op), psych, and general med / surg patients such as COPD, CHF, sepsis, DVT, AKI, and dialysis
Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5 and may include both COVID and non-COVID patients
Chemo patients are not assigned to travelers
Use of EPIC for charting, BD Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis
Centralized telemetry monitoring is available 24 / 7
Expected to float to other med / surg units, ED holding, and COVID units as required
12-hour night shifts with variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
Schedule provided three weeks at a time, released about ten days in advance
First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Initial orientation includes two days hospital-wide and one day unit-specific training
Tele competency test must be completed and passed before starting the role
Support on the unit includes techs, a free-floating charge nurse, and 24 / 7 hospitalist and RT coverage
Assigned breaks and break buddy system in place to promote adequate rest
Emphasis on customer service, teamwork, regular whiteboard updates, hourly rounding, and bedside reporting
All scrubs colors are permitted
Free parking is available onsite
RTO requests must be submitted to the manager for approval
No use of phones on the unit; adherence to medication safety protocols is required

Active WA or compact RN license required (pending license may be considered with proof of application)
Minimum of one year recent med / surg or oncology RN experience required
BLS and NIHSS certifications required
Must pass rhythm interpretation exam prior to start
Experience with EPIC charting system strongly preferred
Ability to perform basic rhythm interpretation, care for post-op ortho / neuro, manage various surgical drains and wounds, and perform chest tube management
Proficiency with IV antibiotics, heparin drips, nebulizer treatments, and CIWA management
