Role Summary The Failure Analysis Lab Technician will be responsible for supporting the Failure Analysis Lab by managing sample preparation, photo assessments, and general laboratory preparation practices. As a Fastener Engineering Support Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the Fastener Lab with testing, reports, and quality documentation. Responsibilities Cut sample sections from a variety of components, including large structural frames to small electronic components, using various machinery such as Bandsaw, Dremel, Clippers, etc. Support the development and implementation of fixturing solutions to aid in the testing and evaluation of complex component architectures. Collaborate with engineers on sample preparation, sample potting, polishing, and etching to support microscopy, hardness, and metallographic examinations. Prepare reports on monthly consumables, including purchase specifications to specific lab inventory levels. Support problem-solving such as Root Cause - Corrective Action and / or Failure Analysis for issues with parts encountered in the plant, in a Service environment, or in the field. Test fasteners and joints to collect torque / tension parameters on the lab bench and evaluate their mechanical and, with training, metallurgical properties. Work closely with Purchasing and Supplier Quality focal points to ensure the technical performance of fastener suppliers, including qualification and validation activities. Support the creation & revision of Standard Components, managing the part release processand maintaining Rivian’s catalogue of standard parts. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting (failure analysis / fastener laboratory preferred). Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient in using failure analysis tools and equipment, such as cutters, polishers, microscopes, and other relevant analytical equipment. Pay Disclosure Salary Range / Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants : $37.42 - $46.77 per hour (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
