Location : Park Ridge, IL 60068 (Chicago metro area)

Healthcare Setting : Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at a major teaching hospital

Job Type : Locum tenens / travel nursing contract

Start Date : October 13, 2025

End Date : January 10, 2026

Assignment Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : 12-hour night shifts (7 : 00 PM – 7 : 00 AM)

Hours per Week : 36

Weekend Rotation : Every other weekend

Holiday Coverage : 75% of holidays required

Scrub Color : Navy

Estimated Weekly Salary : $2430-$2490

PICU RN Qualifications

Current and active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license

Minimum 2 years of recent PICU RN experience in a U.S. hospital setting

BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications required

NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification preferred

Experience with EPIC EMR preferred

Ability to float to NICU and General Pediatrics units as needed

Strong clinical skills, teamwork, and communication abilities

PICU RN Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients in the PICU / PCICU (19-23 beds, average census 15-18)

Care for patients with respiratory conditions, congenital heart disease, hematology / oncology diagnoses, post-operative needs, and trauma

Maintain a 2 : 1 patient-to-nurse ratio for optimal clinical support

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and support staff

Utilize advanced medical technology such as Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Med Sonic monitors

Participate in patient admissions, discharges, and high-touch cleaning with CNA support

Accurately document patient care using EPIC EMR

Engage in ongoing professional development during facility and departmental orientation (NEO and 2 days in PICU / PCICU)
