POSITION SUMMARY :
Tahoma Construction Services (TCS), a general contracting subsidiary of Puyallup Tribal Enterprises, is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial and multi-family construction management and estimating to support our project management team. The Project Engineer will play a critical role in project pre-construction, construction, and closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating, project coordination, construction management, and possess excellent time management skills. The position consults with clients, company representatives, and subcontractors to direct successful project development. Prior experience with Tribal or government projects a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Estimating and Preconstruction
- Assist in preparing the Baseline CPM Schedule for assigned projects during preconstruction
- Assist in preparing preliminary and milestone project estimates under direction of the Project Managers
- Assist in developing General Requirements & Conditions estimates under direction of the Project Managers
- Coordinate and respond to design team or subcontractor questions during preconstruction
- Attend and document Preconstruction and Coordination meetings as required
- Assist with project scope reviews and budget updates under the direction of the Project Managers
- Distribute and track design documents to ensure all team members are working from current plans and specifications
- Receive, maintain, package, and update drawings through the design and construction phases
- Apply for permits and track the approval process to support project start-up
- Create a Submittal Registry and Log, and manage the submittal process for assigned projects
- Review shop drawings to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
- Utilize industry software such as Bluebeam, Procore, or similar tools to assist with quantity tracking, documentation, and coordination
- Maintain a design decision log to track owner or architect changes throughout the design phase.
- Develop and recommend value-oriented solutions to improve constructability or reduce cost
- Support subcontractor prequalification and assist the Project Managers in evaluating and selecting subcontractors
- Help coordinate an organized subcontractor buyout process and track contract compliance
Contracting and Subcontracting
Assist the Project Managers in processing all preliminary change orders monthly and converting them to owner change ordersAssist the Project Managers in issuing all subcontract change orders within the month of receiving approved owner change ordersVerify that all subcontractors are prequalified, sufficiently skilled, and able to meet project deliverables on timeConfirm that plans and specifications are adequate for constructionMonitor subcontractor performance and effectively correct non-compliance with contract requirementsCoach subcontractors toward improved performance and adherence to project standards.Assist the Project Managers in reviewing and negotiating proposed change ordersCompany Focused

BA or BS in Construction Management or equivalent5+ years' experience as Project Engineer / Manager / CQC on commercial or multi-family projectsStrong management, planning, problem-solving, and negotiation skills to meet all project milestones and completion deadlinesAbility to effectively delegate and track work assignment completionSelf-driven and able to work effectively with minimal supervisionStrong computer proficiency, specifically Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Project, Procore, and BluebeamAbility to make wise decisions using an effective mix of analysis, experience, and judgment.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; strong public speaking and presentation skillsRelates well to all people, diplomatic and gracious; builds good relationships without compromising resultsCulturally sensitive and works well with the full diversity of our company and communityUncompromising integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentialityAbility to occasionally work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidaysValid WA driver's license and good driving recordAbility to pass drug screen and background checkPreferred
