POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for training in performing all diagnostic radiological procedures in a timely manner in the modality assigned. Performs procedures according to the physician's orders. As a member of the care team, the Radiologic Technologist Intern is responsible for working collaboratively with other radiologic technologists to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care. In addition, the Radiologic Technologist Intern must be able and willing to cross-train into other modalities.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled or graduate of an accredited radiology program.
  • At least one (1) years of clinical experience in Radiologic Technology preferred.
  • Must apply for state license upon completion of the radiology program.
  • Must be ARRT registry eligible upon completion of the radiology program.
  • Obtain American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) general certification within sixty days (60) days of hire.
  • Apply for state license (i.e. Texas Medical Board) within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required. Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
  • Computer knowledge required.

• Able to demonstrate high degree of competency and experience with radiological procedures.
• Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
• Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
• Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
• Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
• Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
• Responsible for performing all procedures in a timely manner.
• Performs all procedures as per protocol, optimizing imaging examinations to use only the radiation necessary to produce diagnostic-quality images.
• Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
• Assumes responsibility for the collection and processing of patient specimens.
• Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.
• Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.
• Insures exams are verified and completed in PACS and RIS systems.
• Maintain Texas Dept. of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
• Maintain equipment and procedure competencies.
• Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Complete and update all employment requirements, including Health.edu, Employee Health, Radiology Competencies, and Credentials.
• Call will be required for modality specific positions (i.e. Surgery, CT, MRI, NM, IR).
• Other duties as assigned.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

AGE SPECIFIC:

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.

B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
