This position serves as designer and production artist primarily for books and related resources such as e‑books, special print and digital products, and digital supplements. The Production Designer is responsible for design, file setup, layout, and detailed correction throughout the production process of books—covers and interiors—and other resources, according to the long‑standing standards of the Archdiocese.

Specific Duties Serve as designer and production artist for assigned products, collaborating with editors, management, marketing, and production teams.

Create original art and styling according to pre‑design concepts. Conduct peer reviews and obtain design approval through presentations.

Layout large volumes of content with consistency and speed in workflow.

Convert Word files into Adobe InDesign, applying styles from templates or provided style guides.

Import and verify edits from proof markups (typically PDF).

Export book files to PDFs using specified settings.

Follow strict file‑naming conventions and setup guidelines.

Perform preflight checks, perform file checks for final peer review, and send printer files to the printer or upload to the InSite or FTP site.

Manipulate and color‑correct images using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Create marketing images and materials as requested.

Collaborate on template development with the production team.

Participate in status, new product, pre‑design, design, scheduling, and impromptu meetings.

Maintain efficiencies and standards, ensuring quality and brand identity.

Review and process hired illustration for the image library, ensuring quality and versatility.

Communicate issues to the Managing Editor, Art and Design Director, and Senior Production Designer regarding priorities, schedules, and processes, and propose solutions.

Contribute ideas for converting traditional publishing media to new media formats.

Convert print books to e‑book formats as assigned.

Stay abreast of emerging technology, training opportunities, workshops, trade events, and creative trends.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management team.

This position has an annualized salary range of $47,720.17 – $52,000.00. Pay is based on education, qualifications, experience, skills, location, and organizational needs.
