Job Duties
The Virginia Parole Board manages discretionary parole, conditional release, and supervision of offenders on parole or release in the best interest of the Commonwealth of Virginia with due regard for public safety, respect for the victims of crime and the suitability of offenders for parole or release. The Parole Board's Special Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating pardon petitions for the Governor's Office and providing a comprehensive investigative summary for review by the Secretary of the Commonwealth to ensure an informed decision is made on pardon petitions. To provide thorough investigations of pardon petitions to ensure all facts are presented in a comprehensive investigative report to the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Office. This investigative report includes victim input and the opinion of the prosecuting Commonwealth's Attorney and facts from the original law enforcement agency and sentencing Court.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, college preferred. Extensive experience conducting criminal investigations, especially violent crimes. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. Excellent interview / interrogation skills. Experience leading complex criminal and administrative investigations. Must reside within the Commonwealth of Virginia and hold a valid Virginia Operator's License with a good driving record. Prior good standing with DCJS certification or other law enforcement certification.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge of available forensic testing and evidence handling is preferred.
