Assistant Fire Chief-OF&ES

Applications will be accepted through 4 : 59 PM MST on the posting end date. This position is assigned to the Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO), Orchard Combat Training Center (OCTC) Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Idaho Army National Guard (IDARNG), functioning within the State of Idaho Military Division. The position is located at the OCTC Fire Station. The Orchard Combat Training Center is an Army National Guard (ARNG) Maneuver Training Center (Heavy). The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Assistant Fire Chief, providing management and supervision of the fire protection and prevention programs for the IDARNG facilities serviced in the OCTC. Exercises full supervisory responsibility for a fire fighting and protection inspection force consisting of Military Division State employees. Responsible for organizing, training, and directing actual firefighting activities of those members designated to serve as auxiliary members of firefighting crews. This position involves the supervision of personnel engaged in firefighting, and driver / operation of fire apparatus to control and extinguish structure fires, rescue endangered personnel, and take actions to reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards.

Mandatory Requirements to qualify at the NGA-7F Trainee grade :

  • Must be an enlisted member or Warrant Officer in the Idaho National Guard. Provide your military grade, job title, MOS / AFSC and unit of assignment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted state issued driver's license (from any state). Provide your driver's license number, issuing state, license expiration date, and the full name specified on the license.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, and maintain a favorable NACI / T1 Federal Background Investigation.
  • Must possess the following certification levels by an IFSAC or Pro Board Accredited Program (certifications will have affixed IFSAC or Pro Board numbered seal) : Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, and HAZMAT Incident Commander, NIMS ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 700 and ICS 800, NIMS ICS 300 and ICS 400.
  • Must possess, or be willing and able to obtain, the following certification levels by an IFSAC or Pro Board Accredited Program within 1 year of appointment into the position : Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, and Fire Instructor II.
  • Must have 1 year of supervisory experience in the Fire Service or military service, and a minimum of 1 year as a lead firefighter.

  • Fire Department Health and Safety Officer, if assigned as Assistant Chief of Health and Safety
  • Must have 1 year of supervisory experience in the Fire Service or military service, and a minimum of 1 year as a lead firefighter.
  • Required Experience : Must have 24-months (for NGA-8F) or 12-months (for NGA-7F) of specialized experience performing related duties as specified in the announcement listed under Qualification Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). Submit a paragraph for each knowledge requirement below that demonstrates the required experience and describes competence in applying the knowledge.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) :

  • Describe your knowledge of recognized standards covering fire protection and prevention techniques and procedures; agency and installation manuals, rules, and regulations; and federal, state, and local fire protection / prevention ordinances and building codes.
  • Describe your knowledge of the theory of fire propagation and progression and the application of accepted techniques and principles to reduce or eliminate hazards in a specialized environment with a high fire expectancy and potential for severity.
  • Describe your knowledge of the layout, design, construction, and contents of buildings; location of fire protection systems; and other similar characteristics outlined in UFC-3600-01 and UFC-3600-02.
  • Describe your ability to formulate and effectively implement firefighting / emergency response plans and to direct personnel in such operations.
  • Describe your ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
