Job Description :
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced EHS Manager to join our team on the west coast with a focus in California. The EHS Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of environmental, health, and safety within our company. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Key Responsibilities :
- Hazardous Materials Management : Manage the proper identification, removal, handling, storage, and disposal of all hazardous materials from salvaged vehicles, including engine oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, fuel, batteries, and mercury-containing switches, ensuring no illegal discharge to lands or waters of California.
- Regulatory Compliance : Develop, implement, and oversee environmental management systems, policies, and procedures to ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations, including those related to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), hazardous waste (DTSC), and storm water management
- Waste and Recycling Programs : Oversee comprehensive waste management and recycling programs for all non-hazardous and hazardous waste streams, identifying opportunities for resource conservation and efficiency improvements.
- Permitting and Reporting : Prepare, manage, and submit all required environmental permits, reports, and documentation to regulatory agencies (e.g., SWPPP, Title V reports, etc.).
- Audits and Inspections : Conduct regular environmental assessments, audits, and site inspections to identify potential risks, compliance gaps, and areas for improvement. Develop and implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Stormwater Management : Develop and carry out a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) to prevent pollutants from contacting storm water runoff.
- Emergency Response : Manage environmental incidents, spills, and releases, ensuring appropriate first-line emergency response, internal notifications, and reporting to regulatory agencies.
- Training and Awareness : Facilitate and provide environmental training and awareness programs for all staff on proper handling procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements to foster a strong safety and compliance culture.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, CalEPA, DTSC, local authorities) and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Continuous Improvement : Monitor industry trends and best practices in auto recycling and environmental management to ensure the facility remains at the forefront of environmental stewardship.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related fieldMinimum of 5 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in the automotive industryStrong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulationsCertificates not required but preferred QISP, QSP / DExperience developing and implementing EHS policies and proceduresExcellent communication and leadership skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teamsProficient in Microsoft Office and other EHS software programsWe Offer :
