The City of Coronado, California is seeking a Beach Lifeguard. The salary range is $22.03 - $29.52 Hourly, and the position is located in Coronado, CA. This is a non-benefited, part-time position with job number 25-00050 within the Fire Department's Beach Lifeguards division. The opening date is November 18, 2025, and the position is classified as Non-Exempt.

The position involves observing swimmers in designated areas of the ocean and beach, protecting life, preventing accidents, and enforcing beach regulations. It also includes performing beach and ocean rescues, providing emergency medical treatment, assisting in the maintenance of facilities and equipment, and performing technical tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

Essential job functions include observing swimmers, responding to emergencies, patrolling beaches, operating and maintaining equipment, responding to public inquiries, and performing related duties as required.

Minimum requirements include a combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. This can be obtained through one year of beach lifeguarding experience, education/training in beach lifeguarding or a related field, and possession of various licenses and certificates including a Class C California Driver's License, American Red Cross CPR and Emergency Medical Response certificates, and a San Diego Regional Lifeguard Academy Certificate of Completion.

Knowledge of beach lifeguarding principles, first aid and CPR techniques, safety precautions, and relevant codes and regulations is required. Ability to swim with endurance, perform lifeguarding duties, respond to emergencies, operate equipment, enforce regulations, communicate effectively, and establish relationships with the public is also necessary.

The examination process includes a 500-meter open ocean buoy swim, a run-swim-run test, a CPR skills test, and an oral interview. All appointments are subject to a background check, pre-employment physical examination, and drug screening. The City of Coronado is an equal opportunity employer.
