The journey to mental health recovery and wellness has many twists and turns, challenges and opportunities. It can be intimidating and overwhelming. Some who need care never seek it. Some quit before they get started.

At Alaska Behavioral Health we are ready to change that. We want every person who needs and wants help to get the care they need. Our Peer Support Specialists/ Patient Navigators are key team members who make that possible. Unlike traditional mental health providers, they do not sit behind desks or in offices and wait for client to be sent to them, they meet clients at our front doors, welcome them into care and get them access to the services they need. Unlike traditional receptionists, they are also certified health care providers, who also provide direct care and are a critical member of our integrated health care team, walking with the client throughout the treatment process. Its outside the box – but it is what works.

About the Team

The outpatient clinic in Wasilla is a multi-disciplinary team who work together to provide comprehensive behavioral healthcare services to children, family, and adults who experience mental health challenges or life stressors.

What You’ll Do

Peer Support

• Provide support to address the needs of individuals who may require frequent additional support in recovery and wellness services.
• Contribute to assessment & service planning, individual & group skill building, crisis management, and rehab services.
• Works as a member of a highly collaborative team to help clients navigate and obtain services.

Patient Navigator

• Support individuals seeking out service in navigating access to services with AKBH.
• Model and mentor treatment process and demonstrate coping skills, self-help strategies, problem-solving skills, behavioral support skills, and navigation of resources and service providers.
• Identify recovery persons’ abilities, strengths, and assess and assist them to recognize and use them. Assist caregivers in learning advocacy skills.

• Position is based in Wasilla, Alaska
• Full-Time, Non-Exempt
• Pay Range is $20.00 to $26.25 per hour depending on experience
• AKBH offers generous benefits including two healthcare options for employees and their dependent children, 401k with immediate vesting and up to 5% match, 3% automatically contributed by AKBH, and 5 weeks of PTO for the first year, and 8 weeks of PTO after the first year.

What We Need from You

• You have personal life experience in recovery from mental illness, or substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders required; or personal life experience in caring for a child with mental illness or traumatic experiences. You must be comfortable sharing your personal life experiences.
• You have one to two years of volunteer experience in the mental health, substance abuse, or childcare fields.
• You are willing to become Peer Certified as part of your initial onboarding.
