Salary : Approximately $48,684 annually depending upon education and experience. 11 paid holidays, 12 paid vacation days, and 12 paid sick days per year; 401K, pension, and health insurance.

Who we are and what we do :

The Office of General Counsel handles administrative contested case hearings for department program areas and before boards, regulating health care providers, administrative rulemaking, providing legislative bill analyses, writing formal and informal legal opinions, providing timely and accurate legal advice to all department programs, and advising on ethics issues.

Job Overview :

The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a legal assistant to work in its Office of General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities :

The duties for this position include the following :

• Assist attorneys in trial litigation preparation
• Draft pleadings and letters
• Legal research
• File organization and preparation

Minimum Qualifications :

Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college, university, or professional school with one of the following :

(1) an associate's degree in paralegal or legal assistant studies

(2) a bachelor's degree in paralegal or legal assistant studies

(3) a Paralegal Certificate

(4) one year (28 semester hours) of graduate level law school

OR

Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and two years of full-time experience in researching legal issues and documenting findings to assist in building case files, settling legal disputes, and / or providing legal counsel to clients.
