Substitute Therapeutic Intervention Coach - SPEDPosition Summary The Therapeutic Intervention Coach supports K-12 students with emotional, behavioral, and intellectual disabilities in SPED settings. This role provides behavioral and academic intervention, including verbal and physical de-escalation, data tracking, and staff support. The coach serves as a lead responder during physical intervention situations and promotes safe, positive learning environments.
Key Responsibilities - Support teachers and staff with student behavior and academic interventions.
- Provide individual and small group coaching to help students regulate and reintegrate into classrooms.
- Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans.
- Maintain and staff sensory or de-escalation rooms where physical interventions may occur.
- Collect, document, chart, and summarize behavioral and academic data.
- Must collaborate with Special Education staff, Student Management Specialists, and mental health professionals on behavior and safety plans.
- Participate in and apply training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) and other de-escalation methods.
- Uphold district equity policies and participate in related professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications - Two years of college coursework to meet ESSA requirements or passing score on a Para Professional exam required.
- Preferred three years' related experience in special education or mental health settings (education, training, or experience may substitute).
- Strong teamwork, communication, and data documentation skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during crises.
- Must complete NCI certification upon hire.
- Bachelor's degree and therapeutic intervention experience preferred.
- Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform frequent physical movement (bending, restraining, kneeling).
