Senior AI / ML Engineer

Description : The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) team is seeking an individual with a strong working knowledge in software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, reinforcement learning, and / or generative AI to support the LAIC Applied AI team and product portfolio, focusing on Mission Management programs. The team is focused on using small, innovative teams to rapidly iterate and mature solutions from prototypes to deployment for utilization across the enterprise and in the field for our customers.

The selected candidate will focus on the development of technologies and products that leverage Artificial Intelligence to provide discriminating capability to our customers. This will require engagement in every phase of the system development lifecycle including requirements generation, system and software design, implementation, integration, and flight test. Activities will range from low TRL research, proof of concepts, development of prototypes, building demonstrators, and transition to production. The selected candidate can expect to use current AI paradigms including computer vision, generative AI, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, applying these techniques to solve complex problems and field innovative solutions.

Basic Qualifications :

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Computer Engineering from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years experience with a related Master's degree. Considered experienced but still growing.

Complete understanding and wide application experience with natural language processing, generative AI models, and software frameworks (i.e. LangChain or Semantic Kernel) that facilitate the integration of large language models.

Experience using AI / ML frameworks (Pytorch or Tensorflow)

Experience working with Agile methodologies and projects

Experience with Python, Java, C++, GO, or other compiled languages

Experience providing best practices and design principles in all program technologies and implementing them across product teams

Must be a US Citizen

Desired Skills :

Experience with reinforcement learning methods.

Experience with multiple libraries (NumPy, OpenCV, Scikit, or Pandas, etc.)

Experience with DevOps tools : Docker, Git [GitLab, GitHub], Continuous Integration [CI], Continuous Deployment [CD]

Experience writing Dockerfiles, Helm and Kubernetes deployment scripts and templates

Experience interfacing with databases (SQL or MongoDB)

Experience with high-performance computing

Experience with managing Kubernetes container orchestration platforms including Rancher or OpenShift

Familiarity with cloud platform management and provisioning including AWS GovCloud or Microsoft Azure

Strong communicator and active participant in team communication channels such as Teams / Email

Ability to Work Remotely : Part-time Remote Telework : The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules : Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position : 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week

Pay Rate : The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $104,900 - $184,920. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education / training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
