Job Duties
- Provides direction and advice to medical staff, clinical services staff, and other colleagues, as necessary, in connection with reducing risk and controlling loss related to emergent and routine patient care issues occurring during normal business hours and after-hours when assigned risk call.
- Develops and presents educational programs on health care risk management related subjects for health care practitioners and other colleagues.
- Conducts investigations of patient care events, visitor accidents, and other related events that could lead to financial loss. Ensures the collection of all information necessary to prepare for potential litigation under the direction of, and as an agent to, in-house legal counsel.
- Performs medical record reviews and creates timelines or other documentation for the file in preparation for the defense of professional and general liability claims.
- Ensures notice of potentially compensable events to the Administrator, Risk Management to enable reporting to insurance as indicated.
- Reviews subpoenas, autopsy requests, patient complaints, and requests for medical records to identify potential medical malpractice claims.
- Responds to regulatory investigations of patient complaints, collects appropriate documentation, and coordinates responses to the surveyors.
- Ensures confidentiality of all risk management data and maintains all potential legal case files; ensures maximum protection from discoverability of all such files.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in nursing5 years of applicable experience.Ability to relate effectively and efficiently on all levels of the organization including patients, visitors, direct care providers, and senior management.Comfortable providing educational sessions for all levels of the organization.Interpersonal skills necessary to negotiate in high-stress situations when representing the healthcare system in adversarial situations and events.Proficiency in the implementation of regulations from regulatory agencies including DOH and hospital accrediting agencies.RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon HirePhysical Demands Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting / standing, frequent keyboard use,
patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
