Position Overview

The Project Coordinator will support the museum’s mission by coordinating multiple projects that enhance aviation STEM education, and community engagement. This role bridges creative communication and program execution — managing outreach, media coordination, event planning, and partnership development. The coordinator will also play a central role in storytelling, brand consistency, and digital presence across all museum initiatives.

This is a hands-on, in-person collaborative position ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong communication, media, and project management skills who thrives in a creative and fast-paced environment. This is a one-year term-limited position. This position is contingent upon continued funding. Should funding remain available beyond this period, the Museum may extend your appointment.

Year One Focus Areas

1. Communications & Media Coordination

  • Develop a content calendar for museum communications (press, social media, newsletters, etc.).
  • Use Canva to create branded visuals and digital media for events, announcements, and social posts.
  • Draft and distribute monthly newsletters that highlight upcoming programs, achievements, and community impact.
  • Capture and curate event photos, videos, and interviews for digital and PR use.
  • Coordinate with the internal media team and external news outlets to increase visibility of museum initiatives.
  • 2. Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with the Director of Program Innovation to plan and execute outreach efforts for local schools, partners, and community organizations.
  • Maintain relationships with existing partners while identifying new outreach opportunities in Detroit and surrounding communities.
  • Assist with the coordination of student showcases, open houses, and public STEM events.
  • Serve as a liaison between the museum and external partners to ensure effective communication and follow-up.
  • 3. Project & Event Coordination

  • Support the development and execution of museum projects, including workshops, exhibits, and educational programs.
  • Assist in developing project timelines, maintaining task lists, and ensuring deliverables meet deadlines.
  • Help manage logistics for events — including setup, vendors, volunteer coordination, and media coverage.
  • Coordinate with departments to gather project updates, data, and stories for grant reporting and communications.
  • 4. Fundraising & Development Support

  • Work with the museum’s leadership to identify storytelling opportunities for fundraising campaigns.
  • Support creation of donor materials, sponsorship decks, and annual giving campaigns.
  • Maintain a database of sponsors, partners, and donors with follow-up communication schedules.
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders and funders.
  • 5. Research & Data Management

  • Research partnership and grant opportunities aligned with the museum’s mission.
  • Assist with data collection, evaluation reports, and documentation of program outcomes.
  • Maintain project files, media archives, and partner records.
  • Required Skills & Attributes

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in social media management, digital storytelling, and outreach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Canva.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Creative eye for branding, photography, and visual design.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation and flexible availability for weekend or evening events.
