School Psychologist

The School Psychologist, reporting to the Director of Specialized Instruction, provides district-wide psychological services that support student learning, behavior, and emotional wellness. This role delivers high-quality evaluations, consultation, and collaborative problem-solving to strengthen student outcomes and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Psychology

MDE approval as a School Psychologist in the State of Michigan

Ability to meet all district compliance requirements, including background checks

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team

Bilingual capabilities

Experience supporting diverse cultures and communities

Understanding of the continuum of services within special education

Ability to build strong, positive relationships among staff

Core Responsibilities

Administer psychometric and psychological evaluations for students with parent-signed consent.

Conduct initial and three-year re-evaluations within all state and federal timelines.

Apply current, research-aligned psychometric practices in all assessments.

Collaborate with school social workers to design and support appropriate student interventions.

Coordinate and chair multidisciplinary evaluation teams and communicate results to the Director of Specialized Instruction or designee to ensure timely IEPC processes.

Attend all initial and three-year IEPC meetings, as well as additional meetings as requested.

Interpret multidisciplinary evaluation results for parents prior to IEPC meetings.

Participate in school and special education staff meetings as required.

Provide consultation to parents and staff individually or in groups upon administrative request.

Serve as a liaison between students, school teams, community agencies, and health professionals.

Participate in school or program-based teams to support organizational goals.

Engage in ongoing professional development through conferences, in-service training, and relevant literature.

Support students by listening to concerns, helping them process challenges, and guiding them toward goals and solutions.

Promote positive student behaviors through proactive strategies.

Study and implement evidence-based behavioral management techniques.

Review and provide feedback on school disciplinary practices for students experiencing behavioral challenges.

Participate in special education processes by administering psychological assessments.

Complete Medicaid documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Specialized Instruction.

Working Conditions

This position requires emotional steadiness, adaptability, and consistent daily attendance. Responsibilities may involve mobility across multiple school sites and engagement with a variety of student needs.

Terms of Employment

Salary : $60–$120 per hour

Type of Assignment : Full-time

Schedule : District-wide, aligned with the academic calendar and service requirements
