Position Summary :
UNC Horizons seeks a Community-Based Justice & Recovery Therapist to provide gender and trauma-responsive treatment for pregnant, parenting women, and those with substance use, trauma, and those interacting with Wake County legal services (child welfare, adult and family recovery court, jail, NCCIW). The Community-Based Justice & Recovery Therapist is responsible for delivering comprehensive, trauma-informed, and gender-responsive behavioral health services to individuals and families involved with or affected by the justice system. This position provides outpatient substance use and mental health assessments, individual and group therapy, and coordinated care within community settings including recovery court, detention centers, and collaborating social service agencies.
The therapist serves as a core member of an interdisciplinary team, ensuring timely clinical recommendations, facilitating access to treatment and support services, and strengthening care pathways for justice-involved women and families. The role requires strong collaboration with legal partners, child welfare, community programs, and medical / psychiatric providers to promote continuity of care, reentry stability, and long-term recovery. Therefore, the Community-Based Justice & Recovery Therapist will need to work on Wednesdays, Fridays, and rotating Saturdays to meet the clinical and communal needs of the community.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :
Completion of a master’s degree and an active clinical license (LMFT, LCAS, LCSW, or LCMHC), or a provisional license in any of these disciplines, is required. Prior experience or working knowledge in serving vulnerable populations particularly women and families impacted by substance use trauma. Likewise, experience delivering clinical interventions during non-traditional business hours and working within community-based organizations is required.
