The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
Update patient information accurately.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and / or butterfly needles.
Understand all physician orders thoroughly.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.

1 year of experience with drawing hard sticks
Customer service
Phlebotomy certification
Medical and healthcare knowledge
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with phlebotomy on all types of patients
Experience with hard sticks and needles, urine, and thyroid testing
Data entry and processing skills
Detail-oriented with good experience
Experience in emergency room or urgent care settings
Work Environment
This position is located in a Patient Service Center (PSC), which ranks as the third highest in patient volume in the area, serving 130-140 patients per day. The working hours are from 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM, Monday through Friday. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn how to draw blood from children.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00 / hr.
