Construction Inspector - Capital Projects

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Construction Inspector to improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Capital Projects division within our Engineering and Public Works department. The Construction Inspector earns a competitive hourly wage of $25.27- $27.35/based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

General Description

The purpose of this position within the organization is to ensure that projects are constructed according to plans and specifications, and in compliance with City design and construction standards.

This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions:

• Ensure projects are constructed on time, and meet the quality specified in the engineering plans and specifications.
• Reviews construction plans, surveys, and specifications for compliance with city's design and construction standards, and applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations, and provide recommendations to Project Manager.
• Conducts detailed field, on-site, and equipment and materials inspections to ensure alignment with project plans and specifications; verifies quality of workmanship, and estimates/quantities.
• Inspects different types of infrastructures to include, but not limited to streets, stormwater system, water and wastewater, sidewalks, etc.
• Inspects soil, concrete, asphalt, reinforcing steel and excavations within City's Right-of-Way
• Attends and observes field tests on construction materials for compliance with technical specifications
• Ability to plan, organize, and inspect multiple projects simultaneously.
• Provides technical opinion including solutions to address construction related issues.
• Documents work progress and issues arising from throughout the construction of the project.
• Works with contractors to minimize any work hazards on the job site.
• Interacts with the public and maintains positive communications and public relations on all facets of public infrastructure.
• Completes all associated records and reports and ensures proper documentation of all projects are stored appropriately by Capital Projects Division.
• Confirms verification and receipt of all project closeout documentation.
• Performs any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.
• Contribute to team by training others, if needed.

Minimum Education and Experiments Requirements:

• Requires an associate degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in engineering or closely related field.
• Requires two years inspection, construction or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License
