Software Manager - Embedded Systems
Remote | Full time | No sponsorship | $150,000-160,000
Our company has been a trusted leader in engineering innovation in the UK since the 1980s. In 2024, we began expanding into the US, building a small but growing team that's poised for big impact. We're seeking a Software Team Lead / Manager who wants more than just a title - someone ready to combine hands‑on embedded expertise with leadership that empowers, innovates, and drives results. You'll have a voice in shaping processes, tools, and culture as you expand our US engineering presence while also overseeing and collaborating with our established UK software team.
What You'll Do
Lead & Inspire (70%) : Manage and mentor a distributed team of embedded / software engineers - currently 3 in the UK and 1 in the US - fostering collaboration, accountability, and career growth across time zones.
Own the Process (20%) : Take full ownership of Jira - dashboards, workflows, templates - and ensure visibility across technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Drive Confluence adoption as the team's knowledge hub. You'll be the architect of how work gets done.
Technical Oversight (10%) : Provide architectural guidance, review code, and ensure quality and consistency. Occasionally, roll up your sleeves to contribute hands‑on when needed.
Partner closely with product and engineering stakeholders in both the US and UK to align technical execution with product goals.
Support hiring and onboarding as the US team grows, including future firmware engineers.
What We're Looking For
BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
7-10 years of embedded software development experience.
3-5+ years leading or managing software development teams (formal title not required).
Experience managing distributed teams across time zones.
Advanced Jira administration and Confluence expertise.
Strong background in embedded systems with experience in :
Languages : C / C++, Python (for tooling / scripting).
Embedded Platforms : ARM‑based microcontrollers, RTOS environments.
Version Control : Git / GitHub.
CI / CD Tools : Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
Collaboration Tools : Jira, Confluence, Slack / Teams.
Traits we value : organized, proactive, collaborative, adaptable, and eager to shape structure in a dynamic environment.
Why You'll Love Working Here
Your Voice Matters : You'll have ownership of processes, tools, and culture - not just execution.
Global Impact : Lead and influence teams in both the US and UK, ensuring cohesion and innovation across borders.
Growth Story : Join a company with decades of proven success in the UK, now building its US presence from the ground up.
Professional Development : Opportunities for leadership growth, technical training, and career advancement as the team expands.
Competitive Compensation : $120-150k), plus possible 10% performance bonus and comprehensive benefits.
Flexibility : Remote role with occasional in‑person collaboration; potential international trip within the first 60 days to meet the UK team and see products.
