Description : Position Summary :
The Ergonomic Specialist is responsible for assessing workplace environments, identifying ergonomic risks, and developing strategies to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders. This role works closely with employees, managers, and healthcare professionals to design safe, efficient, and comfortable work environments that support employee health and productivity. They play a vital role in conducting ergonomic job analyses and creating a supportive work environment that encourages employee responsibility in reducing workplace injuries. The ideal candidate for this role should possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine commitment to promoting a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.
Essential Job Duties :
- Conduct on-site and virtual ergonomic evaluations for office, industrial, and healthcare settings.
- Identify ergonomic risk factors and recommend corrective solutions (equipment, tools, workstation adjustments, and work practices).
- Develop and deliver training programs on proper body mechanics, workstation setup, and injury prevention.
- Collaborate with occupational health clinicians to support employees returning to work after injury.
- Provide input on the design and selection of furniture, tools, and equipment for ergonomic suitability.
- Document assessments, maintain detailed reports, and track outcomes of implemented interventions.
- Support compliance with OSHA, ADA, and other workplace safety and health regulations.
- Participate in wellness initiatives to promote long-term employee health and injury prevention.
- Provide expertise and assist in ergonomic improvement projects and initiatives within the organization.
- Stay current with research, best practices, and technology in ergonomics and occupational health.
Requirements :
Required Licenses and Certifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Ergonomics, Occupational Health, Kinesiology, Physical / Occupational Therapy, or related field (Master’s preferred).Certification in ergonomics (e.g., CPE, CIE, or equivalent) strongly preferred.Education, Skills, and Qualifications :
Experience conducting ergonomic assessments in office, industrial, or healthcare environments.Knowledge of occupational health and OSHA, ADA, and other workplace safety and health regulations.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.Experience with electronic documentation systems (EMR), familiarity with corporate and industrial injury prevention programs, ergonomics, triage / first aid, and Workers’ Compensation.Strong written and oral communication, clinical assessment, and hands-on manual intervention.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Proficiency in ergonomic assessment tools and software.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.Experience with lighting surveys a plus.Physical Demands :
Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling, walking, and standing for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various equipment reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, and kneeling or crouching.
