Mechanical Engineer Manufacturing (Detroit Metro)

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking to step into a role where your technical expertise directly impacts equipment performance, reliability, and safety. I'm partnering with a respected manufacturer in the Detroit metro area seeking a mechanically strong, safety minded engineer who thrives in environments involving medium to high voltage industrial equipment and complex production systems.
About the Role
In this position, you'll serve as a key technical contributor supporting plant operations, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement projects. You will work cross functionally with Production, Maintenance, Controls, and EHS teams to ensure the safe, efficient operation of manufacturing assets particularly those interfacing with medium and high voltage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, model, and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and full machine systems using CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.).
- Lead and support machine design projects from concept through installation, debug, and production hand-off.
- Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, and material selections for new and redesigned equipment.
- Support equipment troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions for mechanical failures.
- Partner with automation, controls, and maintenance teams to integrate mechanical systems with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, specifications, and manuals.
- Collaborate with vendors and fabricators on component sourcing, prototype builds, and design-for-manufacturability improvements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects focusing on safety, throughput, cycle time, and equipment reliability.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.Demonstrated proficiency working with or around medium to high voltage equipment (e.g., motors, switchgear, substations, large power distribution systems).Strong understanding of industrial machinery, rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, material handling systems, and mechanical power transmission components.Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and collaborate effectively with electrical / controls engineering teams.Hands on troubleshooting skills and familiarity with structured problem solving methodologies (A3, 5 Why, root cause analysis).Preferred (Not Required)
Experience supporting capital projects, machine design, or automation-heavy environments.Exposure to NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and equipment safety standards.Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar mechanical CAD platforms.Background in reliability engineering, FMEA, or CMMS-based maintenance programs.Why This Opportunity Stands Out
