Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

The Chassis Controls Integration Tech Specialist is a key technical leader responsible for elevating the quality and speed of our vehicle development process for chassis controls and related disciplines. This role drives the adoption of advanced virtual engineering methods and leads cross-functional efforts to develop, integrate, and deploy co-simulation packages focused on chassis controls, vehicle dynamics, and adjacent domains. The Chassis Controls Tech Specialist works collaboratively across Virtual Design, Development and Validation (VDDV), Vehicle Performance, Validation, Global Vehicle Hardware Engineering, and Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering, as well as with external partners like Tier 1 suppliers and simulation tool vendors, to ensure that tools, processes, and teams are technically aligned and enabled. Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership and influencing skills, and a relentless focus on innovation in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

What You'll Do

Strategy, innovation, and planning

  • Create and execute road map for chassis controls co-simulation development, execution, scaling and automation.
  • Lead capability development and strategy projects for chassis commodities in support of GM’s vision of a predominantly virtual development process.
  • Stay abreast of competition and industry trends to identify opportunities that improve speed-to-market and cost efficiency.
  • Forecast and plan capability and resource needs, and secure support for required resources to meet program and technology roadmaps.
  • Define strategic opportunities to innovate processes and methods that advance virtual development maturity and efficiency.

Supplier, stakeholder, and program leadership

  • Serve as the primary VDDV technical leadership connection with active chassis suppliers.
  • Maintain a strong connection with SMT and S&S to define component and system-level requirements and support issue resolution.
  • Own chassis supplier requirements associated with controls-integration virtualization (G4 / C12) and collaborate with S&S on C9 / C11.
  • Be accountable for chassis controls supplier deliverables supporting TFRP / PAR, including timely issue escalation when quality or timing risks are identified.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient, cohesive strategy to integrate supplier models into GM workstreams for VDDV, Vehicle Performance, and S&S.
  • Define requirements for supplier co‑simulation packages and work with suppliers to ensure consistent, high-quality, on-time deliverables, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Define co‑simulation package standards for results quality and run-time performance.
  • Lead resolution of program issues by aligning co‑simulation partners to meet technical and timing demands.
  • Represent the needs of the chassis controls team among peers from other disciplines and external partners.
  • Technical leadership, co-simulation, and tools

  • Provide technical leadership for Simulation PDTs supporting active chassis controls and co-simulation workstreams.
  • Act as the single point of contact for chassis controls co‑simulation users, resolving usage concerns and enabling broad adoption.
  • Align software releases, calibration milestones, and vehicle hardware release milestones to ensure the virtual vehicle co‑simulation package is consistently current and representative.
  • Be familiar with hands-on execution and lead the technical dialogue around the design, development, and integration of : Virtual models representing both hardware and software behavior for active chassis systems such as Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), Electric Power Steering (EPS), Active Rear Steering (ARS), Semi‑Active Damping System (SADS), and others into co-simulation frameworks for Electric Vehicle (EV), Plug‑in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) programs to enable vehicle dynamics performance and chassis controls software development, calibration, and validation.Multi‑body and 1‑D vehicle dynamics models including vehicle mass, aerodynamics, brake systems, front and rear steering systems, front and rear suspension systems, tire models, propulsion systems, and sensor models (e.g., Inertial Measurement Unit – IMU) into Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SIL) and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) simulation platforms.Functional Mock‑up Unit (FMU)-based embedded controller models for EBCM, EPS, ARS, SADS, and other vehicle systems.Serial data communication interfaces for embedded chassis controller models to simulate communication between Electronic Control Units (ECUs) through Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect Network (LIN), and Ethernet bus messages for SIL and HIL simulations.Verification and validation of integrated virtual Electronic Control Units (vECUs), serial data communication systems, and vehicle models to meet vehicle specific architecture and dynamic performance requirements for current and future model years.Debugging and troubleshooting of issues in embedded software by analyzing source code written in C / C++.Development and validation of automated simulation run scripts.Development of test procedures to enhance virtual vehicle development, calibration, and validation, and collaboration with suppliers to troubleshoot issues in the virtual models provided for those activities.Closed‑loop learning to validate the performance of chassis controller models and analysis of simulation data against vehicle data to improve the fidelity of virtual chassis controllers.Integration of active chassis simulation components to enable loads prediction for structural design analysis of safety‑critical components.
  • Lead strategic planning and implementation / utilization of Simulation Data Management (SDM) and version control tools to manage supplier assets, virtual plant models, and virtual controller models, effectively leveraging tools such as GitHub.
  • Leadership, communication, mentoring and culture

  • Mentor engineers engaged with chassis controls to enable effective integration and application of co-simulation models for product development, calibration, and validation.
  • Serve as the primary connection and mentor for VDDV subsystem teams in the chassis domain (brakes, driveline, suspension, and steering), ensuring consistent methods and best practices.
  • Support and develop new talent, enabling continuous improvement of standard work and the development and deployment of new tools.
  • Guide and inspire engineers through mentorship and sharing of personal experience and expertise in chassis controls development, fostering technical excellence and leadership behaviors.
