Position Description :
Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking a part time Laboratory Assistant – Biology to assist with biology credit courses. Position Summary : This position assists in the upkeep, maintenance, and running of biology laboratories and classrooms. This includes preparing solutions and chemical reagents, and equipment needed for weekly lab sessions; as well as lab set-up / clean-up for biology courses. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :
- Prepare chemicals and reagents for use in weekly labs.
- Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the department’s laboratory equipment, classrooms, and core area.
- Provide assistance to Instructional Faculty members as needed.
- Prepare and break down various laboratory activities in accordance with the schedule.
- Check throughout the day to resupply or refresh chemicals / reagents or any other lab equipment / supplies as needed.
- Receive any departmental lab deliveries in terms of opening and unpacking them.
- Supervise all laboratories to make sure that all equipment and lab stations are functioning properly. Submit maintenance request for repairs needed as they arise. Respond in a timely manner to issues that arise during laboratory sessions.
- Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Hours / Schedule : Up to 20 hours per week, scheduled between Monday and Thursday , with shifts varying between 4 : 00–9 : 00 p.m. and / or 5 : 00–10 : 00 p.m. , depending on departmental needs. Physical Demands : Ability to lift and carry laboratory equipment as needed. Minimum Qualifications : Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
30 credits in the field of specialty or closely related area (or determined by department)Ability to assume responsibility and work enthusiastically with minimal supervision.Demonstrated understanding and respect for standard laboratory policies, protocols, and safety guidelines.Demonstrated computer ability in current WCC office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication and the use of office communication technology when interacting with faculty, staff, and the general public.Ability to learn and use technical software appropriate to areas of assignment, the Internet, and other College programs.Ability to appropriately handle confidential materials and organize own workload.Preferred Qualifications : Additional Preferred Qualifications :
