Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) :
Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.
Role Overview :
This position is responsible for ensuring the quality, quantity, and safety of drinking water by implementing EPA's and the State's safe drinking water rules and regulations at approximately 4,100 public water systems. The role ensures the safety of drinking water through review of construction permit applications at public water systems. Role includes review of plans and specifications for the issuance of construction permits. EE2 must be able to interpret specific information pertaining to construction standards for public water systems. EE2 must be able to provide technical expertise and guidance to public water systems, consulting engineers, system officials, and the public. The role includes having a thorough understanding of applicable rules and regulations. This position ensures regulations are implemented properly while providing compliance assistance for public water systems. Position includes on site construction reviews of permitted projects for compliance with the permit and applicable standards. Preparing reports and recommendations regarding construction. Following through with further administrative action for noncompliance with the permit and applicable rules and standards. Act as expert witness as needed.
This position includes serving as a resource for IDEM staff on issues related to construction standards for public water system treatment and distribution. Providing appropriate and timely responses to inquiries from consulting engineers, public water systems and the public.
This position requires attending and participating in training programs and conferences to educate systems, engineers, officials and the public regarding existing and new drinking water treatment technologies, AWWA standards, and Ten States Standards.
Salary Statement :
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and / or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
