As a part-time Healthcare Informatics Specialist, this role provides strategic and operational support to the Dean of the Workman School of Dental Medicine and Senior Director of Clinical Operations, with a focus on healthcare systems and clinical technology. While not primarily administrative, the role contributes to executive effectiveness by offering informatics insights that support decision-making, workflow alignment, and system readiness.
Responsibilities may include preparing data-informed reports, supporting presentations related to clinical systems, and advising on the integration of EPIC into academic and clinical operations. The role also fosters strong working relationships with stakeholders across High Point University, HPU Health, and external partners to ensure alignment between clinical informatics and institutional goals.
Communications & Hospitality Leadership
In this part-time capacity, the selected candidate serves as a key liaison between clinical operations, IT, and academic leadership. With a nursing background and EPIC expertise, the role supports the implementation, training, and optimization of clinical workflows within the EPIC system, ensuring that users across the dental medicine network are equipped for success.
The role involves developing clear, user-friendly training materials and documentation, facilitating onboarding for clinical staff, and supporting communication strategies that promote system adoption and best practices. Through a collaborative and service-oriented approach, the Healthcare Informatics Specialist helps maintain a professional and welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
Project Management & Special Initiatives
This role supports and occasionally leads informatics-related projects that enhance clinical efficiency, data quality, and patient care within the dental school and oral health network. Projects may include EPIC module rollouts, workflow redesigns, or quality improvement initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.
The Healthcare Informatics Specialist assists with gathering and analyzing clinical data, mapping workflows, and coordinating with IT and clinical teams to ensure successful implementation. While not responsible for full event planning, the role may support the technical or operational aspects of key events—such as ensuring EPIC access for visiting clinicians or preparing data dashboards for leadership presentations.
