Sr. Controls Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement process automation control systems.
  • Program PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred; Siemens, Modicon, and Emerson experience a plus).
  • Develop and configure SCADA / HMI applications (Ignition, Rockwell Software, AVEVA, WinCC).
  • Specify, configure, and commission instrumentation and motor control circuits.
  • Lead or support system commissioning and field start-ups.
  • Configure and maintain OT infrastructure (Hypervisors, VMs, SQL databases, backup solutions).
  • Configure and maintain industrial networks (Ethernet / IP, Modbus, Profibus).
  • Deploy and troubleshoot networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, cellular modems).
  • Ensure OT / IT network security and integration with enterprise systems.
  • Prepare submittals, system documentation, and detailed design specifications.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for control loops, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
  • Interface directly with customers for training, support, and project updates.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical, Controls, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent technical training with hands-on experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems integration, controls engineering, or OT / IT roles.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (primarily Allen-Bradley RSLogix / Studio 5000).
  • Proficiency in HMI / SCADA development (primarily Ignition, AVEVA, FactoryTalk View).
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet / IP, Modbus, Profibus).
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs).
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for digital / analog circuits, instrumentation, and motor controls.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for customer-facing roles.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • PlantPax programming experience.
  • Recognized networking certification.
  • Familiarity with UL508A / 698A standards and electrical panel design.
  • Experience with 2D electrical CAD software.
  • Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity best practices.
  • Exposure to projects across multiple industries (water / wastewater, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, utilities).
  • Experience managing project scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, and change order processes.
