Bilingual Mental Health Clinician (Unlicensed) / Mental Health Consultant

Family Building Blocks is seeking a compassionate and experienced Bilingual Mental Health Clinician (Unlicensed) / Mental Health Consultant to provide trauma-informed, family-centered psychotherapy to children (including infants and toddlers) and their families. You will serve as a Mental Health Consultant to one or more of our programs-Relief Nursery (RN), Early Head Start (EHS), and Healthy Families Oregon (HFO)-supporting staff to create developmentally appropriate, therapeutic environments and helping caregivers strengthen attachment and bonding with their children.

Key Responsibilities

Bilingual Mental Health Clinician

  • Establish professional, trusting and therapeutic relationships with clients
  • Diagnosis mental health conditions and identify prioritized client needs from a strengths-based approach
  • Provide individual and family psychotherapy to children, parents and families using evidence-based practices
  • Collaboratively create treatment plans containing specific goals and objectives clients want to achieve during treatment
  • Manage the scheduling and coordination of services
  • Accurately, clearly and concisely document all work with clients
  • Collect and enter all client data required for the Measures of Outcomes Tracking System (MOTS)
  • Utilize and provide consultation to community resources as appropriate
  • Follow professional and agency standards
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it related to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations served
  • Consultation / Mentoring

  • Perform regular observations of therapeutic classrooms to identify infants and toddlers in need of mental health services
  • Consult with Therapeutic Teachers to provide education and training on best practices caring for infants and toddlers from a mental health perspective
  • Facilitate reflective supervision groups with direct service staff
  • Support direct service staff in maintaining a self-care plan
  • Maintain appropriate professional standards and provide appropriate follow-up for consumers.
  • Training

  • May provide training on early childhood mental health topics to staff and parent groups.
  • Staff Wellness

  • May support the Program Director in identifying program-wide wellness needs of staff, and provide training and resources to maintain a healthy, professional work environment.
  • Other Related Activities

  • Meet with supervisors, program manager regularly for reflective supervision, professional development, accountability, program improvement, and problem solving.
  • Attend meetings, training, and appropriate professional development activities
  • Support the work of Family Building Blocks volunteers and interns as an integral part of program services.
  • Minimum Education & Experience :

  • Master's or doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Must be able to qualify as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
  • Knowledge and / or experience providing mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and psychotherapy to children and families.
  • At least 6 months of experience conducting assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning through internships or employment.
  • Ability to incorporate child-based therapies into treatment is required (as young as infant / toddler)
  • Bilingual, English / Spanish.
  • Must be computer proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and record keeping software.
  • Must have respectful, open, unbiased, accepting attitude toward clients and their families.
  • Additional Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Mandated Responder - Report all cases of suspected abuse and neglect in accordance with Oregon statutes and agency policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain throughout the length of employment an acceptable driving record according to FBB criteria
  • During the course of employment, a valid auto insurance is required
  • Employees must sustain a drug free and acceptable criminal record throughout the course of employment
  • Must have Pediatric First Aid / CPR card and Food Handler's card within 30 days of employment.
  • Must maintain discretion and respect the confidentiality of information about enrolled families, personnel issues and other program operations.
  • Support Family Building Blocks established safety policies and procedures toward a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Contribute to a positive and professional atmosphere at Family Building Blocks and promote caring, calm and respectful interactions with families, children, volunteers, interns and staff of Family Building Blocks.
  • Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • Current Enrollment in Child Care Division Central Background Criminal History Registry and / or the Oregon State Police Criminal Records
  • Documentation of training in "Recognizing and Reporting Suspicions of Child Abuse and Neglect". (Must be a minimum of 2 hours training)
  • Valid Oregon Driver's license
  • Proof of current auto insurance.
  • Language

    This positions requires bilingual English / Spanish- must communicate fluently with participants and provide specialized instruction in related curriculum. This may involve translation as well as developing strategies to engage Hispanic speaking personnel in training activities that will encourage engagement and attendance.

    Expected Hours of Work

    This position requires a flexible schedule to prepare meeting and staffing space, also be flexible to meeting staff needs when setting mental health staffing.

    Travel

    This position will require travel between sites to meet with staff, perform classroom observations, and attend trainings / meetings
