Job Summary and Qualifications

General Statement of Duties :

The Surgical Technologist is responsible forassistingwith the delivery of qualitysurgicalcare throughplanning andanticipatingthe surgeon / procedure needs and coordinatingwith the circulating perioperative nurse during surgical procedures. Demonstratescompetency in surgical technologyto include allmajor surgical specialty areas;includesgathering and preparingsterile supplies, equipment, preparing / maintainingthe sterile field andassistingthe surgeon by supplyingsterile instruments / supplies tothe sterile field in a safe and efficient manner. Performsroutine scrubroleaswellspecifically delegated department duties. Consistently followscurrent AORNand regulatorystandards andestablishedpolicies and procedures of the System.

NON-CERTIFIED : No license, certificate or registrations required for the Sterile Processing Department All other departments no license, certificate or registration required if they meet the below provision : Per Texas HB 643, surgical technologists entering practice after 09 / 01 / 2009 must have and maintain asurgical technologist certification. Individuals that performed in a surgical technologist position prior to 09 / 01 / 2009 are not required to obtain a surgical technologist certification.
