This Job Description establishes and describes the basic functions, requirements, reporting relationships, tasks and duties, and measures of performance for the functional position of Shop Foreman for Willards Garage.
BASIC FUNCTION :
Hands-on working supervisor, coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Shop Operations and providing the necessary planning, guidance, motivation, organization, and control to meet the Job Schedules and achieve the productivity goals set for the company.
The Shop Foreman position is a management role; therefore, you are classified as an exempt salaried employee. The Shop Foreman will function as a working Technician carrying out any required tasks related to the Shop Operations. Any and all bonuses will be subject to the productivity and profitability of the company and be paid on an annual basis.
REQUIREMENTS : Education :
- Minimum High School Diploma, equivalency, or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred : Technical School Training.
Experience :
5+ years of auto service experience and certification in Automotive Service and Technologies.ASE Master Certification. If you do not have ASE Master Certification, you will get the certification within 2 years of hire date.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities :
Must be able to read and comprehend instructions and technical materials.Be able to organize work and multi-task across multiple activities.Must be computer literate and have an aptitude for using other types of diagnostic and hi-tech equipment.Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS :

To plan, coordinate, and control all day-to-day activities of the Shop Operations to ensure the Job Schedules are completed, and all customer delivery / due dates and requirements are met.To ensure the Policies and Procedures of the company are followed.To ensure that there are excellent working relationships and communication channels between the Shop and the Management to maintain a good working environment.Providing guidance, training, and direction to all technicians under his control, as necessary.Making decisions on disciplinary action or recommending dismissals to the owner of the company.Prepare the Weekly Work Schedule (on the Scheduling Board) for the technicians under his control, in consultation with the Owner, and make any authorized changes. Always strive to plan all work a week in advance and minimize all unplanned schedule changes.Perform all shop operations in an efficient, effective, and safe manner, ensuring the finished job meets the specified requirements, within the budgeted times.Prepare all required reports on job status, keep track of all defective work, rework, downtime, and other idle time.Investigate, analyze, and identify the root causes of problems encountered in the daily shop operations and, working together with the owner, take the necessary corrective and preventive actions.Implement the planned Preventive Maintenance Program for all major equipment and machines and proper Tools Control for all small tools.Perform all required Quality Control inspections and checks to satisfy customer requirements and company procedures, including Final Inspections prior to delivery.Arrange prompt delivery of all completed jobs in the most cost-effective manner.Respond to telephone inquiries and other contacts with customers and suppliers.Ensure the company's Health and Safety Procedures are being complied with.Measure and track the productivity levels of the technicians both individually and as a whole group and take appropriate actions to increase these continually.Cross-train your technicians to build a team of multifunctional, cross-trained technicians.Make sure the technicians maintain 60% and above efficiency.Monitor the workflow and reassign manpower as required to ensure a smooth workflow and efficient labor utilization.Monitor stock levels of all supplies and place requisitions for reordering supplies when needed based on approved company guidelines.Ensure all technicians maintain complete and accurate timesheets.Perform any other task or work assignment that may be delegated to you by the owner from time to time.MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE :

The ability to keep the Scheduling Board up to date and assign job tasks and work in the most effective and efficient manner and ensure maximum utilization of labor.The extent to which agreed delivery dates are met.The quality of work done as measured by defect rates, level of rework, and customer complaints.Ability to motivate technicians to exceed performance goals and build teamwork.Demonstrated capacity and ability to solve problems and provide technical guidance to the technicians.The amount of work completed as compared to the work scheduled.The extent to which jobs are completed within the billed versus actual man-hours and costs.The ability to maintain discipline and a stable work environment where all company policies and procedures are adhered to.
