Job Description
Under the direction of the Information Technology Operations Manager, the Systems Administrator provides technical support to all Information Technology (IT) datacenter functions including Server, Microsoft Active Directory, among others. This includes, but is not limited to, the installation and documentation of Microsoft Active Directory, server specific applications and is responsible for ensuring system integrity through routine preventative maintenance.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience developing and executing processes and procedures in order to ensure maximum uptime for the organization and will have a solid understanding of both the datacenter environment itself and the equipment that is utilized including servers, storage, event monitoring, systems management and Change Management.

Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations, ability to read, understand, and apply MTS policies, regulations and union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn and use other software that MTS might have or acquire; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to explain simple procedures in writing or verbally; good phone skills; strong analytical skills; familiarity with an operating system and its commands / utilities at a user level; ability to edit files, use basic utilities and commands, find users' home directories, navigate through the file system, install software on workstations, and use I / O redirection; some understanding of how user authentication happens in a directory service context; ability to identify / locate shared resources and perform simple tasks (, manipulate jobs in a print queue, why a network file system isn't available); familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management using modern declarative tools; understanding distinctions between system processes / services and user processes, the authentication / authorization processes in use at the site, local and network resources and resource sharing, basic networking concepts and practices; for Windows administrators, familiarity with the basic Windows administrative tools and how to locate them; ability to write purchase justifications, train users in complex topics, make presentations to an internal audience, and interact positively with upper management; comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration (, managing processes and services, configuration of server systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, and fundamentals of security); ability to model and reduce; understanding of paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, and filesystem concepts; familiarity with fundamental networking / distributed computing environment concepts; ability to configure file sharing (NFS / SMB or Windows); ability to query DNS records; understanding of basic routing concepts; ability to write scripts in some administrative language (, VBScript, Windows PowerShell); and working knowledge of configuring and supporting Microsoft Azure and M365.

Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, such as walking, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 50 pounds). Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle and perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work may at times require more than 8 hours per day and / or irregular hours to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment. May require travel to external agencies.
Experience / Education / Certificates / License(s)
At least a minimum of five years of experience performing systems administration duties involving Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Server platform, and Microsoft Exchange is required. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college / university in computer science, management of information systems or a related filed is preferred. A combination of education and experience would be considered. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
GENERAL :
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
SALARY RANGE :
10 ($74,148 - $150,795)
Anticipated Hiring Range : $83,000 - $93,000
