Tax Manager

Piper Companies is seeking a Tax Manager to lead and support a broad range of domestic and international tax compliance, planning, and reporting activities for a publicly traded company in the Silver Spring, MD area. This is a full-time, direct hire role that offers a hybrid schedule (3 onsite days per week).

Responsibilities for the Tax Manager include :

• Manage U.S. federal and state income tax compliance, including quarterly estimates and coordination with external providers.
• Oversee global income tax provision under ASC 740, including tax footnotes and supporting documentation for SEC reporting.
• Lead international tax projects such as transfer pricing, R&D credits, and foreign tax filings.
• Support tax planning and compliance for employee benefits and executive compensation, including equity-based reporting.
• Handle fixed asset tax analysis, cost segregation, and reconciliations.
• Administer indirect tax compliance (sales / use, property, VAT, GST / PST) and related filings.
• Prepare documentation for audits and respond to tax authority inquiries.
• Monitor tax law changes and assess impact on business operations.
• Identify and implement tax process improvements, including automation and technology solutions.
• Collaborate with Finance, Legal, HR, and external advisors on tax matters and forecasts.
• Lead and mentor tax team members, supporting development and recruitment.
