Job Description:
The Senior Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients. The Senior Mental Health Technician assists in providing basic physical, social, spiritual and safety needs of patients through the implementation of appropriate therapeutic approaches and related nursing functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Program Director and within the scope of the Senior Mental Health Technician position and assists in orientation, mentoring and development of new Mental Health Techs.
Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Behavioral science undergraduate degree preferred (Psychology, Social work and Sociology).
Experience: Minimum two years in an inpatient or partial psychiatric/mental health setting with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques, demonstrated understanding of mental illness and related behavioral management techniques, and development of therapeutic and management programs targeted for special population is required.
License/Certification: Current BCLS Certification is required. Successful completion of Handle with Care De-escalation, including restraint and seclusion practices and policies is required within days of employment and prior to assisting in restraining procedures.
Other: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.
